We provide curbside waste and recycling collection to all urban residents within South Bruce area. If you live in the rural areas of the Municipality, you can dispose of your waste and recycling at one of our landfill sites.
Curbside Garbage and Recycling Pickup
The Municipality of South Bruce is participating in the Municipal Innovation Council’s pilot project in partnership with Canadian company Food Cycle Science Corporation, which offers an innovative food composting solution in the form of FoodCycler™ units.
The partnership allows residents of South Bruce the opportunity to participate in an on-site food waste diversion solution that will reduce the amount of organic waste headed to the landfill. The Municipality will be offering 70 FoodCycler™ units at a subsidized rate for South Bruce residents.
Please view the Municipality's On-Site Food Waste Diversion Pilot Flyer and the Municipal Resident Guide for comprehensive details on the project as well as common FAQ's below.
What is a FoodCyclerTM Unit? |
The FoodCycler™ is a closed-loop indoor compost alternative, which speeds up the natural decomposition process through aerobic digestion of waste. The unit dries and grinds food waste into a dry, odourless, nutrient-dense by-product that is significantly reduced in weight and volume from its unprocessed state. The end product is free from bacteria, and weed seeds and food-borne pathogens are eliminated in the process. Benefits of the FoodCycler™:

What is the pilot project and what is required of me? |
Residents interested in participating are encouraged to register online by April 14th or until supplies last. Successful registrants will be sent a link from Food Cycle Science where they will be able to purchase their unit at the discounted rate. You will need to track use of your FoodCycler™ unit for a 12 week trial period. During this time you can use the unit as much or as little as you need or want! You are simply required to track how often you run the FoodCycler™ (i.e. how many cycles). You will be provided with a simple tracking sheet. At the end of 12 weeks there will be another quick survey you are required to complete. The survey shouldn’t take more than 10-15 minutes to complete and will be comprised mostly of multiple choice questions related to your experience using the FoodCycler™ and your waste management practices. |
What do I do with my FoodCyclerTM Unit after the 12 week pilot? |
You own your FoodCycler™! You are welcome to do whatever you like with the unit after the 12 week trial. We hope that you will continue to use it to divert food waste from landfill.
