Child and Youth Recreation Programs

The “Babysitting Basics” course is for youth aged 11 to 15 years old. It teaches the new babysitter the necessary skills to provide care to children in a variety of situations.

The course emphasizes safety rules, responding to emergencies, and developing leadership skills.

Participants must be 11 years old by course date.

Date: November 20, 2026 (PA Day)

Time: 8:30am-4:00pm

Location: Mildmay Carrick Recreation Complex, 24 Vincent St. Mildmay ON

Cost: $75.00/participant

Ages: 11 and up (Must be 11 by November 20, 2026)

Registration closes November 13, 2026.  A minimum of 10 participants are required to run the course. 

Instructed by St. John Ambulance Staff, the "Home Alone" course is designed for young individuals aged 10 and older who may spend short periods alone at home. The course aims to equip participants with essential skills to handle various situations safely and responsibly.

Date: June 5, 2027 (PA Day)

Time: 8:30am-3:30pm

Location: Teeswater Culross Community Centre, Recreation Room (21 Marcy St. E, Teeswater)

Cost: $65.00/participant

Ages: 10 and up (must be 10 by June 4, 2027)

Registration closes May 28, 2027. A minimum of 10 participants are required to run the course. 

Get creative and bring your very own Friendly Monster Tote Bag to life! Artists of all ages will have fun designing and decorating a unique monster using colourful shapes, silly eyes, fun textures, and lots of imagination. This workshop is hosted by artist Wendy from Colour Outside the Lines.

Each participant will take home their one-of-a-kind monster tote bag—perfect for carrying books, toys, treasures, and more!

All ages are welcome! Come create, giggle, and make a monster that’s uniquely yours!

5–7: Must attend with a guardian. Guardians are welcome to create their own tote bag too, but must register separately if they wish to participate. 

Ages 8–12: May attend independently but must be signed in and signed out by an authorized adult.

Ages 13+: May attend independently.

Embrace the season with a fun and creative afternoon of painting! Join artist Wendy from Colour Outside the Lines and create your very own winter-themed tote bag.

Whether you’re inspired by snowy landscapes, cozy winter scenes, or your own imaginative ideas, you’ll have the chance to make your tote completely your own. No artistic experience is needed—just bring your creativity and have fun!

At the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with a unique, hand-painted tote bag ready to use for books, shopping, everyday essentials, or as a special keepsake.
